Main Ingredients
- 2 loaves white bread (preferably day-old)
- 4 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 stick (½ cup) butter
- Turkey broth (as needed)
Seasonings
- 1–2 tsp poultry seasoning
- 1 tsp dried sage
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Step 1 – Prepare the Bread
Start by breaking the bread into small cube-sized pieces.
Let the bread dry overnight if possible. Dry bread helps the stuffing hold its shape and gives a better texture after baking.
Step 2 – Cook the Vegetables
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and celery and cook until soft and fragrant. This step builds the base flavor of the stuffing.
The aroma of butter, onion, and celery creates the classic holiday stuffing smell.
Step 3 – Mix the Stuffing Base
In a large mixing bowl, add the dried bread cubes.
Pour the cooked butter, onion, and celery mixture over the bread.
Add:
- Sage
- Poultry seasoning
- Salt and pepper
Mix gently so the bread absorbs the flavors evenly.
Step 4 – Add Broth
Slowly add turkey broth little by little.
Mix until the bread is moist enough to hold together but not too wet or sticky.
This is the key step to getting perfect stuffing texture.
Step 5 – Shape the Stuffing Balls
Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round balls using your hands.
Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Make sure they are evenly shaped so they cook uniformly.
Step 6 – Bake Until Golden
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the stuffing balls for about 25–35 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
The inside should remain soft and flavorful.
